The Yucaipa Fire Department (YFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Yucaipa, located in the Inland Empire region of San Bernardino County in the foothills of the San Bernadino Mountains, some ten miles east of the City of San Bernardino, and some seventy two miles east from downtown Los Angeles, in Southern California. In addition, the Yucaipa Fire Department provides fire protection under contract to the the unincorporated community of Oak Glen. The city's name s derived from the Native American Guachama dialect and means "wet or marshy land". Incorporated on November 27, 1989, Yucaipa encompasses an area covering 28.39 square miles and serves a population of approximately 54,542 inhabitants. Yucaipa is bordered by the unincorporated communities of Cherry Valley and Oak Glen to the north; by the unincorporated community of Mountain Home Village to the north-northeast; by the San Bernardino National Forest to the northeast-east; by the City of Calimesa in Riverside County to the south; by the City of Redlands and the unincorporated community of Crafton to the west; and by the unincorporated community of Mentone to the northwest.
Automatic/Mutual Aid[]
The Yucaipa Fire Department has automatic aid agreements with the CAL FIRE San Bernardino Unit, the CAL FIRE Riverside Unit / Riverside County Fire Department, the Calimesa Fire Department, the Highland Fire Department, the Redlands Fire Department, the San Bernardino County Fire Department, and the San Bernardino National Forest Fire Suppression.
Department Profile[]
The Yucaipa Fire Department, served by CAL FIRE through a co-operative agreement. is budgeted for 22 full-time fire suppression personnel (one Battalion chief, six fire captains, one fire captain/paramedic, seven fire engineers, and seven firefighter/paramedics) working two alternating 48-hour shifts (plus a relief shift) out of three fire stations. This force is augmented by twenty reserve firefighters used to staff a fourth fire station. In addition, there are two non-sworn dispatch/communications operators and .25/part-time administrative assistant, Daily staffing consists of nine on-duty personnel. Staffed front line apparatus include; three ALS engine companies, and one battalion chief vehicle. In addition. Yucaipa cross staffs three wildland units (two Type 3s and one Type 6) and a water tanker. Yucaipa Fire does not provide EMS and ambulance transport services as part of its mandate. All EMS and transport is provided under a county contract by American Medical Response (AMR)
