Future Plans[]

  • In 2020, three reports were released by the city. They were: Standards of Coverage, Fire Underwriters Report and The Master Plan. Over the course of 15 years, $150 Million has been identified as being needed for facility optimizations. The reports suggest that staffing levels and apparatus remain the same, but the number of stations should decrease. In order to offset potential response time delays, a traffic preemptive system will need to be installed at all city intersections. Below is a complete list of the identified projects which are shown numerically, not necessarily in order of priority. All plans are subject to budget allocations and council approvals. Projects removed from the below list as they are completed or as changed/rejected*
    • Consolidation of Stations 1, 5, 31 into a new Downtown mega-station
    • Consolidation of Stations 2 and 3 into an expanded Station 2
    • Consolidation of Stations 4 and 30 into a station at a new location
    • Relocation of Station 8 to an area near Lagimodiere Boulevard @ Grassie Boulevard
    • Consolidation of Stations 9/15 into a new Station 9 on the lands of the current Station 15 (Opening Nov 2024)
    • Relocation of Station 13 to an area near Pembina Highway @ Waller Avenue
    • Engine 15 to be relocated to a modular station in summer of 2024 at 110 Eaglewood Drive in Waverley West
    • New Station 15 in Waverley West - Bison Drive @ Ruth Crossing (2026)
    • Consolidation of Stations 19 and 36. Current Station 19 would be demolished and rebuilt on same site
    • Extensive renovations to Station 22 or relocation based on how the surrounding geographical area develops
    • Modular Station to be used during construction of new halls and station renovations (2022 onwards)
