History[]

In 1935, Windsor annexed three surrounding towns, expanding its territory and population significantly. WFD also saw a considerable expansion, adding the stations and apparatus of the East Windsor Fire Department, Sandwich Fire Department and Walkerville Fire Department.

In 1966, further annexations added the former Riverside Fire Department station on Lauzon Road and the Sandwich West Township Fire Department station on the Third Concession.

1 254 Pitt Street East 1928-1970 Originally designated Station 2, renumbered #1 in 1935 upon reorganization after the annexation of surrounding departments. Demolished in 1971.
2 2296 Richmond Street 1935-1984 Originally built as Walkerville Fire Station 1 in 1927, annexed by Windsor in 1935. Demolished and replaced by a new building on the same site in 1984.
2 2296 Richmond Street 1984-2015 Built on the site of the previous Station 2. Decommissioned in 2015.
3 1855 Turner Road 1935-1972 Originally built as Walkerville Fire Station 2 in 1928, annexed by Windsor in 1935. Demolished.
4 868 Langlois Avenue 1915-193? Originally numbered Station 3, re-numbered as Station 4 in 1935 following annexation. Closed a few years after re-numbering, used for manufacturing polishing pads. Converted into a private residence by the early 1950s, still stands.
5 199 Wellington Avenue 1915-1961 Originally numbered Station 1, re-numbered as Station 5 in 1935 following annexation. Closed in November 1961.
5 2635 Third Concession Road 1966-1978 Former Sandwich West fire hall. Third Concession Road later renamed North Service Road.
5 1905 Cabana Road West 1978-2017 Purchased by St. Clair College for firefighter training centre.
6 363 Mill Street 1935-1964 Originally built as the Sandwich Fire Station in 1921, annexed by Windsor in 1935. Closed when Station 4 opened. Converted to a branch of the Windsor Public Library, opened 2019.
6 5650 Tecumseh Road East 1971-2015 Built to replace the original Sandwich fire station. Closed after the completion of the new station 2
7 254 Lauzon Road 1966-2012 Built as Town of Riverside Fire Station in 1954, annexed by Windsor in 1966.
8, later 6 2550 Airport Road 2006-2017 A building on airport grounds was transferred to the city in 2003 for use as a fire station. It was originally numbered Station 8 and renumbered Station 6 upon the closure of the original Station 6 on Tecumseh Road. Replaced by a new building in 2017.
