Department Profile[]
WFES is staffed with a compliment of 124 full-time firefighters. The department operates four frontline pumpers, two aerials cross staffed by one crew depending on the call type (Ladder 35 or Aerial 35), a frontline rescue (cross-staffed with Pumper 35) and a Platoon Chief. WFES also has a regional mutual aid agreement for Aerial 35 as it is one of only two aerial platforms in the region.
Spare pumpers 36/37/38 are also staffed when call-backs are required. The department also has a training division (3 staff), fire prevention division (7 staff) and administration & logistics (4-5 staff). Command personnel consist of a chief and two deputies - one for operations and training, the other for prevention and asset management.
Fire Dispatch is provided by Oshawa Fire Services. Apparatus are numbered using a regional system that assigns a number prefix by municipality. This system was implemented in early 2013. Whitby apparatus numbers start with 3.
The Mechanical Division is located at the Town of Whitby Operations Centre on McKinney Drive.
