Westates Fire Apparatus was an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Woodland, California. The company built a variety of fire apparatus from 1958 until 2009. Westates closed in 2009 and its assets were acquired by the American Truck and Trailer Body Company in nearby Tracy, California.

History[]

Westates was established in Redwood City, CA in 1956 as a commercial truck body fabricator. In 1958 the company received a contract to build brush trucks for the California Division of Forestry. The company was soon branching out into other types of fire apparatus. In 1969 Westates moved into a larger facility located in Menlo Park.

Initially the company built all of its apparatus on commercial chassis, but would start to build custom chassis apparatus in the 1970s. By the 1980s the company had entirely shifted to the production of fire apparatus, and moved to a new plant in Woodland, California.

Westates would produce a broad range of apparatus from brush trucks to aerial apparatus using both commercial and custom chassis.

The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection were frequent customers of Westates.
