History[]
West Elgin was created in 1998 through the amalgamation of Aldborough Township (which included the community of Rodney) and West Lorne. For several years afterward, there were two separate fire departments, each with their own chief - the Rodney Fire Department and West Lorne Fire Department. In 2016, West Elgin council voted to amalgamate both fire departments under a single chief.
