History[]
West Carleton Township was located in the westernmost portion of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. It was formed in 1974 through the amalgamation of the Townships of Fitzroy, Huntley and Torbolton. Each of the Townships had its own fire department:
- The Fitzroy Township Fire Department with fire areas in Fitzroy Harbour and Kinburn;
- The Huntley Township Fire Department in Carp; and
- The Torbolton Township Fire Department in Constance Bay.
In 2001, all of the municipalities in Ottawa-Carleton were amalgamated to form an expanded City of Ottawa. The Township Fire Department became part of Ottawa Fire Services.
