History[]
Wesco Fire Apparatus, originally known as Westland, was an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Portland, Oregon and Berkeley, California. Douglas Roney, the owner of Roney Fire Equipment, sold his company to the Convoy Company of Portland in the early 1960s. Convoy changed the company's name to Westland Fire Apparatus, and they built four distinctive apparatus on cab-forward Freightliner chassis (dubbed the Fireliner) for the Chehalis and Renton fire departments. Convoy sold the business to a California investor in 1963 and he moved operations to Berkeley under the Wesco name. Wesco built apparatus for departments in the northwestern United States until the company left the fire apparatus field the mid-1960s. Douglas Roney and his son Ken both worked for Wesco, Douglas as a dealer and Ken as sales manager.
