The Wellington & Fletchers Lake Volunteer Fire Department was originally formed in 1957 as the Wellington Fire Department. The name was changed with the addition of Fletcher's Lake in 1985. In 1996, it and the other fire departments of Halifax County were amalgamated to form the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service.
