Overview[]
The Webster Fire Department protects the Town of Webster, a former mill town located in south-central Massachusetts. The town is notable for Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg (often shortened to Lake Chargomaug, or Lake Webster); said to have the longest name of any geographical feature in the United States. The name is a Nipmuc/Algonquian word for "fishing place at the boundaries—neutral meeting grounds", or "lake divided by islands".
