The Washington Township Fire Department is a career/volunteer fire department that employs around 30 career firefighters and has around 75 volunteers with career members on duty 24/7. They protect a population of over 48,000 residents in an area of 21 square miles.

Grenloch Fire Company was formed in 1922, Hurffville Fire Company was formed in 1927 and Whitman Square Fire Company was formed in 1962.
