Vandenberg Space Force Base, previously Vandenberg Air Force Base and, prior to that, Cooke Air Force Base, is a United States Space Force Base located 9.2 miles northwest of Lompoc on the Central Coast of California. Established in 1941, Vandenberg Space Force Base is currently a space launch base launching spacecraft from the Western Range and it also performs missile testing. The base was renamed Vandenburg Air Force Base on 4 October 1958 in honor of General Hoyt Vandenberg, the United States Air Force's second Chief of Staff. On 14 May 2021, it was renamed Vandenberg Space Force Base in keeping with the expansion and standing up of the United states Space Force. The United States Space Force's Space Launch Delta 30 serves as the host for the base. In addition to its military space launch mission, Vandenberg Space Force Base also performs space launches for civil and commercial space entities, such as NASA and SpaceX.

Department Profile[]

Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF), structure firefighting, emergency medical services, hazmat services, fire prevention and inspection for Vandenberg SFB is provided by the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron / Vandenberg Fire Department, a subordinate unit of the 30th Operations Group, comprised of civilian and military firefighters.
