Area Served[]

The Vacaville Fire Department (VFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Vacaville, located some 35 miles southwest from the City of Sacramento within the Sacramento Valley in Solano County, Northern California. The city is named after early settler and pioneer of the land Juan Manuel Cabeza Vaca. Incorporated on August 9, 1892, Vacaville encompasses an area covering 28.6 square miles, and has a population of approximately 102,386. Vacaville is bordered by the unincorporated community of Bucktown to the northwest; by the unincorporated communities of Hartley and Allendale to the north; by the Sacramento Valley to the north and to the east; by the City of Dixon to the northeast; by the unincorporated communities of Batavia and Elmira to the east; by Travis Air Force Base to the south; by the City of Fairfield to the southwest; and by the Vaca Mountains to the south and to the west.

Mutual Aid[]

Vacaville FD has mutual aid agreements with the Vacaville Fire Protection District, the Dixon Fire Department, the Fairfield Fire Department, the Suisun City Fire Department, the Travis Air Force Base Fire Department, and the CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit.

Department Profile[]

The Vacaville Fire Department is comprised of 100 full-time sworn and civilian non-sworn support personnel staffing five first due engine companies, one first due aerial ladder company, one incident command vehicle, and five advanced life support ambulances out of five fire stations. Vacaville FD also cross staffs a technical rescue response unit, three Type 3 and three Type 5 wildland units, two swift water rescue/boat units, a California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) engine, and participates in the Solano County Inter-Agency Hazmat Team. The department responded to 12,546 calls for service in 2021.
