Ucbc

The Union City Body Co. was formed in 1898. They were a manufacturer of walk-in vans (step vans) for commercial and industrial use. UCBC built four delivery truck models with 64 different sizes and a medium duty van in 14 different body sizes. Customers included United Parcel Service (UPS), Federal Express (FedEx), Aramark Services, Airborne Express, Frito-Lay and the US Postal Service.

History[]

In 1992, UCBC was purchased by a private investor after the company had declared bankruptcy. Over the next few years, the company's owner purchased Centennial Body of Columbus, GA, Atlas Body of Amory, MS and Nationwide Fleet Services in 1996.

In 1997, the company owner purchased the General Motors Commercial and Motorhome Chassis Division and renamed it Workhorse Custom Chassis.

In 2003, the bankrupt Grumman Olson Company's dry van and refrigerated bodies division was purchased. The walk-in van (step van) division of Grumman Olson was acquired by the Morgan Group, and renamed Morgan Olson.

In 2005, UCBC was sold to Utilimaster Corporation, and Workhorse was sold to Navistar International. Utilimaster is now a subsidiary of The Shyft Group.
