Department Overview[]
The Town of Vernon Fire Department, as it stands today, was the result of the merger of the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Rockville Fire Department (together, which were comprised of five separate fire companies) in 1980; to become the largest all-volunteer fire department in the state of Connecticut. Serving a suburban community 15 miles away from Hartford, TVFD responds to a variety of hazards, including a very busy Interstate 84, expanses of undeveloped or preserved land, large shopping plazas, residential areas, and the historic mills & buildings of Rockville, among others.
