Sutphen Corporation is an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Dublin, Ohio.

History[]

Formed in 1890, Sutphen initially acted as a dealer for companies like American Fire Apparatus and Pirsch, and also built apparatus on commercial chassis. In 1963, the Sutphen Aerial Tower was introduced, and the new aerial device gained in popularity. Initially, models were sold on commercial chassis, but by the late 1960s, Sutphen was offering trucks on TCM "Cincinnati" cabs. A fully-custom chassis was released in the early 1970s. In the 50 years since, Sutphen has become one of the oldest continually operating fire apparatus manufacturers in the US, having delivered over 7,000 trucks all over North America.

Production[]

Sutphen offers a full line of apparatus - aerial devices, pumpers, rescues, tankers, wildland and industrial trucks. 70, 90, 95, 100 and 110' mid-ship platforms are available, as are 75 and 100' mid and rear-mount aerial ladders; and 105' tractor-drawn aerials. Their rigs are in service throughout the eastern, Midwestern and southeastern United States. Major customers include Orlando Fire Department, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, Detroit Fire Department and Columbus Division of Fire.

Aerials[]

The model names of Sutphen aerials use an alpha-numeric format. The first letter 'S' stands for Sutphen, the following letters stand for the apparatus type (e.g. 'LR' for 'ladder, rear-mount'), and the number for the height.
