Summit Fire Apparatus is a fire truck manufacturer located in Edgewood, Kentucky.
History[]
Summit Welding & Fabricating was formed by Charles Messmer in 1957 and built its first fire truck, a tanker, that same year. His sons Joe and Tom took over the operation in 1969 after their father's death. The name of the company changed to Summit Fire Apparatus in 1975. That same year, Summit began purchasing and refurbishing pumpers for resale, including many from FDNY.
The size of the Edgewood facility was doubled in 1994. Summit builds pumpers, rescues and tankers on commercial and custom chassis.
