History[]
In 1960, Sudbury annexed the surrounding Township of McKim, assuming the stations and equipment of the McKim Township Fire Department. Area-wide municipal restructuring in 1973 saw the city expand again. The SFD assumed fire protection responsibility for municipally-unorganized territory to the south of the city as well as the Town of Copper Cliff, which was protected by the Copper Cliff Fire Department.
In 2001, the City of Sudbury was amalgamated with other area municipalities. The fire department became part of Greater Sudbury Fire Services.
