History[]
The South Jordan Fire Department was established in 1977. The first Fire Chief was Burt Bauk, succeeded by Ted Sandstrom in 1985, and Gary Whatcott in 1992. During the mid to late 90's, South Jordan FD held a partnership with West Jordan Fire Department to house 2 firefighters and staff an ambulance at WJFD's Station 27 (now 54). Around this time, South Jordan FD also contracted with the Salt Lake County FD to provide paramedics to run at Station 35. In 2000 South Jordan FD moved from mostly part time ranks to a fully paid career department and started its own paramedic services, ending the need to partner with Salt Lake County FD. A few years later the partnership ended with West Jordan FD also.
