The Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) / Society for the protection against forest fires is a private/public non-profit organization that provides wildfire protection and aerial firefighting service under the umbrella of Le Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité Durable du Québec (MTQ) / the Ministry of Transportation and Durable Mobility of the Province of Quebec, more commonly known as Transports Québec. The aerial firefighting service is provided in and for the Province of Québec by MTQ's Service Aérien Gouvernemental (SAG) or Government Air Service.

Company Profile[]

Besides its government operation in Québec, SOPFEU provides aerial firefighting equipment and manpower under contract/lease to clients in the United States, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It also has provided firefighting assistance with both manpower and equipment to other Canadian provinces, as well as territories, The company has approximately 450 employees distributed across Québec province. In addition to the Quebec head office, there are four main operating bases located in Baie-Comeau, Maniwaki, Roberval and Val-d'Or, as well as several secondary and backup bases.

Fleet[]

SOPFEU operates its own fleet of 14 CL-215 and CL-415 fixed-wing water bomber air tankers, and contracts with Saint-Frédéric, QC-based Grondair Aviation for spotter and command and control aircraft, as well as with Quebec City, QC-based Hélicoptères Hélicarrier Inc. for rotary wing aircraft.
