History[]

The Village of Sleepy Hollow was originally founded as North Tarrytown, and adopted it's current name in 1996. The name comes from the famed story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", written by author Washington Irving (which is also how the nearby village of Irvington gets its' name). The village (much like the city of Salem in Massachusetts) is also a hotspot of Halloween tourism, drawing thousands of visitors every year.
