King County Fire Protection District No. 4 operates as Shoreline Fire Department.

Department Profile[]

Shoreline Fire Department provides advanced life support (ALS) to Bothell Fire Department. Shoreline provides fire protection services to King County Fire District No. 16 under contract.

Mutual Aid[]

Shoreline FD has mutual aid agreements with Bothell Fire Department, Seattle Fire Department, South County Fire, and Eastside Fire & Rescue.

History[]

On August 31, 1995, the City of Shoreline was incorporated, being temporarily annexed that same day. On Septemer 19, 1995, voters approved the annexation of the City of Shoreline into Fire District 4, effective on January 1, 1997.

On June 1, 2022, Northshore Fire Department began contracting services from Shoreline Fire Department. Under the terms of the agreement, all stations and apparatus are retained by NFD, and all staff and miscellaneous equipment were transferred to SFD. The term of the contract is 7 years, expiring on May 31, 2029.^[1]

On February 11, 2025, voters approved the merger the Northshore and Shoreline Fire Departments with a combined 12,613 "yes" votes and 6,234 "no" votes.^[2] The Shoreline Regional Fire Authority will officially be formed on May 1, 2025.
