About[]

The Sequoia National Park and the Kings Canyon National Park are two national parks located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountain range in Fresno and Tulare Counties, in central California. Both parks, encompassing a combined size of 1,353 square miles, have been jointly administered by the United States National Park Service as the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks since 1943. The combination Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park are bordered by the Sierra National Forest to the north; the John Muir Wilderness to the northwest, north and east; the City of Bishop and the Bishop Paiute Tribe to the northeast; the Inyo National Forest to the northeast, east, and southeast; the Owens Valley, and the communities of Big Pine, Independence and Lone Pine to the east; Mount Whitney and Whitney Portal to the southeast; the City of Visalia and the community of Three Rivers to the southwest; and the City of Fresno to the west.

Mutual Aid[]

The Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with, among others, the Tulare County Fire Department, as well as the Hume Lake Fire & Rescue Department in Fresno County

Dispatch[]

All emergency and non-emergency responses by the Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park Fire Department are initiated, dispatched, and managed from and by the Ash Mountain Fire dispatch center which is separate from the dispatch center for general park operations. Ash Mountain Fire is staffed seasonally, usually from May through November, by one to two permanent dispatchers and one to two seasonal dispatchers.
