History[]
The Seat Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company (originally incorporated as the Seat Pleasant Volunteer Fire and Community Welfare Association) was a volunteer fire department in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The department was organized in 1915 and chartered in 1916. The department was numbered Company 8 by the Prince George's County Volunteer Firemen's Association. The department was located in the City of Seat Pleasant and operated out of one station within the city limits. In 2013, career staffing provided by the Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department was redeployed, leaving the station to be staffed solely by volunteers. Over the following years volunteer participation substantially declined and County plans to relocate and replace the Seat Pleasant station moved forward. In 2021, the department ceased operations, and in 2022, the County opened a fire station on Shady Glen Drive in nearby Capitol Heights, replacing the Seat Pleasant station. As of 2025, the organization was in the final stages of dissolution. The firehouse was listed for sale, all its apparatus was sold, and the gear was returned to the PGFD. The equipment was either sold or donated to various organizations.
