Brigade Profile[]

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (Seirbheis Smàlaidh agus Teasairginn na h-Alba) is the largest fire service in the United Kingdom.

It was formed on 1 April 2013 when the 8 existing Fire and Rescue Services of Scotland were merged by the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012.

At the end of 2019 they had a fleet of 1,551 vehicles and 431 pumps. operating from 356 Fire Stations defined as either:

  • Wholetime: A station with full-time firefighters.
  • Retained: Part-time, on a call-out basis and predominantly based in some of the more rural areas of Scotland.
  • Volunteer: On a call-out basis and predominantly based in some of the more remote villages and islands.

The Brigade is broken into 3 Areas - East, North and West - each run by a Deputy Assistant Chief Officer. The areas are then split further into LSO (Local Senior Officers) areas.
