The Santa Barbara City Fire Department (SBFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Santa Barbara, a tourist and resort municipality located in Santa Barbara County, Southern California, on a south-facing section of the coastline, between the Santa Ynez Mountains, an east–west trending range, and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara, the second largest city in Santa Barbara County after Santa Maria, has a four mile long Pacific Ocean beachfront as well as a small hub / commuter airport known as Santa Barbara Municipal Airport with passenger jet service by major airlines. The city's name was derived from he Spanish name Santa Bárbara which means "Saint Barbara" in English. Santa Barbara encompasses an area covering 42.0 square miles and serves a population of approximately 88,665. Behind the city, in and beyond the Santa Ynez Mountains, is the Los Padres National Forest, which contains several remote wilderness areas.
Mutual Aid[]
SBFD has mutual aid agreements with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the Montecito Fire Protection District, the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and with the United States Forest Service.

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department consists of 105 full-time fire suppression employees working out of eight (8) fire stations, including the airport located within the city of Goleta. Daily operations staffing is 29 personnel. on three operational shifts working a 48/96 work schedule. SBFD's management team consists of a fire chief, a fire operations division chief, a fire prevention division chief, an administrative services manager, an emergency services manager, and four battalion chiefs (three shift battalion chiefs and a training officer). SBFD responds to approximately 10,000 calls for service annually.
