Santa Ana Fire Department

Area Served

The Santa Ana Fire Department served the City of Santa Ana, located at the base of the Santa Ana Mountains, along the Santa Ana River in Central Orange County, Southern California. The city's location puts it 32.3 miles southeast of the City of Los Angeles, and roughly 10 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. Incorporated on June 1, 1886, Santa Ana has a total area of 27.37 square miles and a population of 310,227 inhabitants.

History

The Santa Ana Fire Department was established on November 1, 1883 as a volunteer fire department. On February 21, 2012, the Santa Ana City Council chose to contract fire protection services to the Orange County Fire Authority (California), which took effect on April 20, 2012. When dissolved, SAFD had 192 sworn and 15 non-sworn personnel working out of ten fire stations, while maintaining an ISO Class 1 rating.
