History[]

When the City of San Marino was first incorporated in 1913, it did not have its own fire department. For the first ten years of its existence fire protection was furnished by the City of Alhambra. The San Marino Fire Department was established in 1923 when the first fire chief and one paid fireman were hired and a fire station was constructed on the corner of Huntington Drive and San Marino Avenue. Besides the two paid men, the department was comprised of volunteers. The original fire station is still in use today as a part of San Marino City Hall. In 2014, the city of San Marino entered into an agreement with the cities of San Gabriel and South Pasadena to share fire command. In 2016 the City of San Marino entered into an agreement with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) for rescue ambulance response into Los Angeles County jurisdiction
