The City of Salem is an independent city and not part of a county. There are two Salem Fire Departments in Virginia, the second being the Salem Volunteer Fire Department in Culpeper County.

East Calhoun Street Two story frame building that housed one horse drawn hose wagon and two hose carts. Demolished by 1922.
19 North College Avenue -1925 Two story frame building that housed one hose and chemical truck. The building was converted to a fire station by 1922. Demolished by 1925 when a new municipal building was constructed on the property.
1 19 North College Avenue 1925- Former municipal building and fire station. Later repurposed as the city's public schools administrative building. Now owned and used by Roanoke College. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
