History[]

Rural Metro Fire has provided Fire, Rescue & EMS services to Knox County since 1977. With over 200 career personnel and 17 stations, Rural Metro Fire is the 5th largest fire department in the state of Tennessee, and one of the largest private fire departments in the country.

Rural Metro Fire provides service to Knox County as a private fire department, with households and businesses paying a membership fee for service.
