Area Served[]
The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District (RCFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the City of Rancho Cucamonga, part of the Inland Empire, located about 37 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, at the westernmost portion of San Bernardino County, Southern California. RCFD, a subsidiary district of the City of Rancho Cucamonga and formed on October 21, 1974, encompasses an area covering 50 square miles and serves a population of approximately 174,453 inhabitants. Cucamonga stems from the Tongva native American word "Kukamonga" meaning "sandy place" and Rancho Cucamonga was a Mexican land grant in the 1800s. The District is bordered by the San Gabriel Mountains, including the federally designated Cucamonga Wilderness area, to the north; the City of Fontana to the east; an unincorporated part of San Bernardino County to the southeast; the City of Ontario to the south; and the City of Upland to the west.
Mutual Aid[]
RCFD has mutual aid agreements with the United States Forest Service/San Bernardino National Forest Fire Suppression, the CAL FIRE San Bernardino Unit, the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the Ontario Fire Department, and the Fontana Fire Protection District.
Department Profile[]
The Fire District’s is budgeted for 154 full-time employees assigned to eight (8) fire stations which are each staffed with a 3-person Type 1 fire engine with two of the stations also housing a 4-person aerial ladder truck. The district provides structural and wildland fire protection, emergency medical services (both Basic and Advanced Life Support ), hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and tactical paramedic response for law enforcement (SBSD). The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District cross-staffs four Type 3 wildland engines (one of them OES owned), one Hazardous Materials response unit, one technical rescue unit, a water tender, and a swift water rescue team. The Fire District does not provide EMS and ambulance transport services as part of its mandate. All EMS and transport is provided under contract by American Medical Response (AMR). RCFD received 18,250 calls for service in 2022, the majority of which were medical calls.
Dispatch[]
The Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District is a member of a regional fire and emergency services communication system called CONFIRE Joint Powers Authority (JPA), commonly referred to as "Comm Center", and located in the City of Rialto, which provides dispatch services for nine fire agencies, as well as for four contract agencies in San Bernardino County.
History[]
The Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District, formerly known as the Foothill Fire Protection District, was formed in 1975 through a consolidation of the Alta Loma Fire District and the Cucamonga Fire District.
