Provo Fire and Rescue provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Provo, including the neighborhoods and areas of Carterville, Dixon, East Bay, Edgemont, Fort Utah, Grand View, Lake View, North Park, Provost, Riverside and Wyview, all located 43 miles south of Salt Lake City in Utah County, Utah. Provo takes its name from Etienne Provost, a fur trader and explorer from Quebec who settled in the area. Incorporated as a city in April 1850, Provo encompasses an area covering 44.19 square miles which includes Provo Municipal Airport, the Brigham Young University campus, Provo Canyon, Rock as well as Slate Canyons, and Utah Lake, and serves a population of approximately 115,162 inhabitants. Provo is bordered by the City of Orem on the north, the Wasatch Mountains/Wasatch Range on the east, the City of Springville on the south, and the Utah Lake on the west.

Provo Fire and Rescue has mutual aid agreements with the Utah County Fire Department, the American Fork Fire Department, the Lehi Fire Department, the Lone Peak Fire District, the Mapleton Fire Department (Utah), the North Fork Fire Department (Utah), the Orem Fire Department, Payson Fire & Rescue (Utah), the Pleasant Grove Fire Department (Utah), the Saratoga Springs Fire and Rescue Department (Utah), the Spanish Fork Fire Department, and Springville Fire & Rescue (Utah).
Dispatch[]
All emergency and non-emergency responses by Provo Fire and Rescue and the Orem Fire Department, as well as certain emergency calls for the cities of Lindon and Vineyard, are initiated, dispatched, and managed from and by the Provo Metro Emergency Communications dispatch center, located inside Provo City Hall.

Provo Fire & Rescue was formed in 1890 as the Provo City Volunteer Fire Department.
