Department Profile[]
The Providence Fire Department is the largest fire department in the U.S. state of Rhode Island, employing about 400 firefighters, and is the second largest department in New England, with the largest being Boston. It is also the largest city in Rhode Island. The PFD responds out of 12 firehouses, and protects a population of 190,000 residents over a 20 square mile area. The PFD also provides emergency medical services at the ALS level.

Response Area[]
The PFD covers the City of Providence, the state capital and largest city in Rhode Island (and second-largest in New England). They respond to a wide and varied assortment of hazards, including the Ivy-League Brown University, the Roger Williams Park and Zoo (a popular tourist attraction), several historic neighborhoods, numerous high rises and commercial properties in the downtown area, the state capitol (and associated government buildings), a large convention center and sports arena, the sprawling Rhode Island Hospital campus, several busy highways, portions of 3 different rivers, a busy train station, several parks, and multiple large industrial properties.
