Poway Fire Department

Area Served[]

The Poway Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Poway, located in North San Diego County, Southern California. Incorporated on December 1, 1980, Poway has a population of approximately 49,701, and encompasses an area covering 39.16 square miles. The city is bordered by the unincorporated community of Rancho Santa Fe to the west, the unincorporated communities of Ramona and Fernbrook to the east, the City of San Diego to the west (Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Mountain Ranch and Sabre Springs) and to the south (Scripps Ranch).

Dispatch[]

The Poway Fire Department receives its dispatch services from San Diego Fire-Rescue's dispatch center, the Emergency Command and Data Center (ECDC), commonly referred to as "Metro." The ECDC dispatches for San Diego Fire Department as well as for 5 other agencies in the county, including PFD. The other agencies being Chula Vista Fire Department, National City Fire Department, Imperial Beach Fire Department, and Coronado Fire Department. These agencies form the "Metro Zone."

California Task Force 8[]

The Poway Fire Department is a member agency of California Task Force 8 (CA-TF8)

History[]

In January 2007, Poway renumbered apparatus from two-digit 5x identifiers to four-digit 37xx identifiers. On September 1, 2022, these four-digit 37xx identifiers were replaced with two-digit 9x identifiers.^[1]
