History[]
The Ponoka Fire Department was formed in 1906.
Prior to 2016, Ponoka's fire department responded outside the town and covered portions of Ponoka County. In early 2016, the County proposed forming a regional fire service. Ponoka opted not to join and the county-owned rigs were returned to the County in April 25, 2016.
Effective March 2, 2018, Town Council voted to approve Ponoka County Regional Fire Services to provide fire service to the Town of Ponoka. With the service for fee agreement, the town sold their 2016 Freightliner Engine and 1989 Ford/Superior 65' Telesquirt to Ponoka County.
