Fire protection in Philomath was provided by citizens using bucket brigades until the purchase of a hand-drawn hosewagon in 1906. The Philomath Fire Department was founded by volunteers in 1930, purchasing their first motorized engine by popular subscription. PFR still owns both these apparatus.
