The Peninsula Fire Protection District (PFD), located on the Lake Almanor Peninsula, a rural portion of Plumas County in northeastern California, provides fire protection and emergency medical services (ALS) to an area of approximately 17 square miles, with a service population that changes during year and ranges from 1,158 in the winter months to 8,000+ in summer. In addition, Peninsula Fire Protection District provides management, staffing, ALS response and medical transport for the approximately 738 citizens of the Hamilton Branch Fire Protection District.
Mutual Aid[]
The Peninsula Fire Protection District has mutual aid agreements with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection / CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit, the Chester Fire Protection District, the Susanville Fire Department, and West Almanor Fire-Rescue.
Department Profile[]
The Peninsula Fire Protection District is a mixed paid / volunteer department budgeted for eleven paid staff supplemented by approximately 15 volunteer / part time staff. The district's resources include two fire stations and six front-line emergency vehicles. comprised of three Type 1 engine companies, two type 1 ALS ambulances, and one command vehicle. In addition. Peninsula FPD cross staffs one Type 6 wildland company. The district had also cross-staffed one OES Type 1 engine company (OES 379) however, it was returned to the state upon delivery of their new 2021 KME engine.
History[]
The Peninsula Fire Protection District was founded in 1964. A fire station with two bays was built in 1966 on donated private property.
