These are comprised of eight engine companies, two aerial ladder truck companies, six paramedic rescue ambulances, and two battalion chiefs, working three 24-hour alternating shifts. Each fire engine is staffed with one captain, one engineer, and two firefighters, at least one of which is a paramedic; the two ladders trucks are staffed with one captain, one engineer and two firefighters; the rescue ambulances are staffed with two firefighter/paramedics and the command vehicles with one battalion chief. As a participating agency, the Pasadena Fire Department has agreed, along with the 12 other member jurisdictions, to eliminate jurisdictional borders for fire resource responses.

California Regional Task Force 4[]

The Pasadena Fire Department is the sponsoring agency of California Office of Emergency Services Regional Task Force 4 (CA-RTF-4).

History[]

The Pasadena Fire Department was established on October 8, 1887 to mitigate emergencies within its jurisdiction. It moved into its first formal and permanent station in 1889. Before that time, the Pasadena firefighters had been housed in a ramshackle structure and summoned by a church bell. There were 24 firemen for two shifts in 1889. From its original single station, hose cart, and hook and ladder rig, the Department grew to meet needs by adding personnel equipment, which included a motorized ambulance in 1930. PFD has maintained an ISO Class 1 rating since 2015. They are one of five Class 1 agencies in LA County. The Ronald McDonald House Pasadena at 763 Pasadena Avenue is often referred to as "Station 35" due to the support of, and involvement from, Pasadena firefighters.
