Area Served[]
The Palo Alto Fire Department (PAFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Palo Alto, located in the South Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, in Santa Clara County, northern California. San Rafael, named after a coastal redwood tree known as El Palo Alto, was incorporated as a city on April 23, 1894, encompasses an area covering 26.00 square miles, and serves a population of approximately 68,572. The City of Palo Alto is bordered by the City of East Palo Alto and the City of Menlo Park in neighboring San Mateo county to the north; San Francisco Bay to the northeast; the cities of Mountain View to the east; the City of Los Altos to the east and southeast; the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the south; the unincorporated community of Stanford, including Stanford University, to the west; and the town of Portola Valley in San Mateo County to the northwest.
Mutual Aid[]
The Palo Alto Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with the Santa Clara County Fire Department, the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, the Mountain View Fire Department (Santa Clara County, California), the Redwood City Fire Department, and the Santa Clara Fire Department (California).
