The North Plainfield Fire Department is a career fire department that employs around 31 firefighters who protect a population of approximately 23,000 residents over an area of about 3 square miles. NPFD also provides emergency medical services on the BLS level.
History[]
Warren Engine Company No. 1 was formed in 1869. West End Fire Company was later formed. The North Plainfield Fire Department was formed in 1904 when they started hiring paid firefighters. The history of the department is on display at the North Plainfield Exempt Firefighters Museum which is located at 300 Somerset Street.
