The North Central Fire Protection District was formed on July 31, 1947 as a result of a December 11, 1945 resolution by the Board of Supervisors of Fresno County. Effective September 6, 1966, the District was automatically considered as reorganized and operating under the Fire Protection Law of 1961. The District is governed by a Board of Directors. Effective July 1, 2007, the District entered into a contract with the City of Fresno for the Fresno Fire Department to provide fire protection and emergency services to the District. The service agreement with the City of Fresno was limited to labor in order to staff the District’s fire stations, and for FFD personnel to provide maintenance of the District’s fire stations, apparatus, and communications system and lasted until until July 31, 2018. The District has also entered into an agreement with the County of Fresno for dispatching services.
