Overview[]
The Newington VFD serves the Town of Newington, a community of approximately 30,000 immediately southwest of Hartford. Newington is a "bedroom community" - that is, it is primarily residential with commercial properties, many of which are along the Berlin Turnpike, a four-lane divided arterial road that was known for its large number of motel rooms.
