The New Afton copper-gold mine is located 10 kilometres from Kamloops. It originally operated as the Teck Cominco Afton Mine until closing in 1997. The mine was reopened in June 2012 with new ownership as the New Afton Mine. The mine consists of an open pit and underground works. In 2025, New Gold Inc. was purchased by Couer Mining of Chicago, Illinois for $7 billion USD.
