History[]
Muskoka Lakes was formed in 1971 as part of municipal restructuring in Muskoka District. The newly formed municipality was an amalgamation of the Village of Bala, Cardwell Township, Medora & Wood Townships, the Village of Port Carling, Watt Township, the Village of Windermere and part of Monck Township.
The fire department was formed from a merger of the Bala Fire Department, the Medora & Wood Township Fire Department, the Monck Township Fire Department, Port Carling Fire Department and Windermere Fire Department.
