Overview[]

The Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1952 as a volunteer agency providing fire and rescue services in Mint Hill and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. In 1974, the department also began providing medical transport (ambulance) services for the Town of Mint Hill NC. In 2019, those EMS responsibilities were turned over to the County's EMS provider MEDIC.

In 2025, the department opened its second station to improve coverage and response time to the western portion of the town. With the opening of this second station, the department now covers all of the Town of Mint Hill. The Idlewild Volunteer Fire Department, which had previously covered a portion of the Town disbanded.

As of 2025. the department is a combination department, utilizing a combination of full time and part time employees. The department has an ISO rating of 2 and responds to more than 5,000 calls for service per year.
