History[]
In 1992, Snohomish County Fire Protection District No. 12 (Marysville) contractually consolidated with Marysville Fire Department under the joint operating name of Marysville Fire District, which had previously been used interchangeably to refer to either department. On January 1, 1998, Snohomish County Fire Protection District No. 20 (Lake Goodwin) joined the consolidation. On May 15, 2002, Fire District 20 merged with Fire District 12. Fire District 12 continued to participate in the contractual consolidation with the city.
On April 23, 2019, voters approved the merger of the Marysville Fire Department and Snohomish County Fire Protection District No. 12 with 6,340 "yes" votes and 6,243 "no" votes.[1] The merger was finalized on October 1, 2019, forming the Marysville Regional Fire Authority. The RFA regular levy funds fire protection services, while Fire District 12 and the City of Marysville each have separate EMS levies.[2]
Until December 31, 2023, Marysville provided services to Quil Ceda Village under an Inter-Local Agreement. The ILA was not renewed for 2024.
