Cayel Craft

Maintainer Custom Bodies (MCB) was an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

History[]

MCB's history includes a couple of other names in ambulance and fire apparatus manufacturing. In 1976, Cayel Craft Ambulances was formed as an ambulance builder. In the 1993, the company's name was changed to Amtech Emergency Products. Amtech continued to build ambulances, but also added rescue trucks. Amtech exited the ambulance business and concentrated on rescue and specialty vehicles, changing its name to Rescue Vehicles of Iowa (RVI). When RVI's owners retired, they sold the operation, which became Maintainer Custom Bodies.

On October 1, 2015, Maintainer Custom Bodies (MCB), merged with Maintainer Corporation in Sheldon, Iowa. Maintainer Corp. is a manufacturer of heavy duty customized service bodies, service body cranes and lube bodies.

On February 1, 2021, the Maintainer Custom Bodies brand was purchased by Ward Apparatus (no relation to the former Ward LaFrance company). Ward Apparatus is part of the BEST Family of Companies. After sale of the brand was completed, the Maintainer Corp. Rock Rapids plant began concentrating on production of aluminum service bodies, DuaLock aluminum drawers, and lube skids. Ward continues to use the MCB brand as well as having revived the RVI brand.

Production[]

Maintainer built light and heavy rescues, pumpers, wildland urban interfaces, quick attack, military, command and specialty vehicles on both commercial and custom chassis. It provided full vehicular refurbishment services.
