Overview

The Lower Macungie Fire Department serves Lower Macungie Township, as well as Alburtis and Macungie boroughs.

History

The Wescosville Fire Company was formed in 1924. In 1998, the social quarters portion and firefighting operation was separated and the department incorporated as the Lower Macungie Fire Department.

In 2017, the LMFD, along with Alburtis Volunteer Fire Department, agreed to a merger. As a result, LMFD's number assignment changed from 30 to 80 and 81, while Alburtis retained county station number 1. The utility will remain as 30 for fire police. 30 will remain the Department’s “umbrella number” and this prefix will be used by the Chief, Deputy Chiefs, Fire Police Captain and Fire Marshal. Wescosville station will change to the prefix 80, Brandywine to 81 and Alburtis will keep 1.

In 2024, Lower Macungie assumed fire protection responsibility for the area previously served by Macungie Fire Company No. 1.
