London Fire Department (Ontario)

History[]

The London Fire Department was organized on April 1, 1873.

In 1961, the City of London annexed the adjoining Village of Byron. The volunteer Byron Fire Department was absorbed into the LFD.

In 1993, London annexed the adjoining Town of Westminster, making the volunteer Westminster Fire Department part of London Fire Services. The City hired full-time staff for the newly-built Westminster hall, later designated Station 11, and the volunteer force was disbanded.

On Order[]

In 2023, the City of London entered into a single source contract with local Rosenbauer dealer City View Specialty Vehicles for the provision of four new apparatus, with the option to continue through 2027. The initial order consists of the following:

rescue
decontamination response vehicle

Trucks planned in subsequent years include 3 pumpers, 2 rescue pumpers, 3 aerials, 2 pumper/tankers and one pod-equipped hazmat vehicle.
