ACRECC serves an area of approximately 738 square miles, with a resident population of over 1.5 million, providing fire and medical dispatch services for unincorporated Alameda County, as well as for the following cities and communities: Alameda, Albany (medical dispatch only), Castro Valley, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward (medical dispatch only), Livermore, Newark, Pleasanton, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Sunol, and Union City

California Task Force 4[]

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department is a member agency of California Task Force 4 (CA-TF4)

History[]

Established in 1888, the Pleasanton Fire Department began with twenty volunteers, two hose carts and a Hook and Ladder Company which carried twenty leather fire buckets. Prior to 1958, the City of Livermore had an all volunteer fire department. That year the city hired Jack Baird as the first full time Fire Chief. They also hired three full time paid firefighters: Charlie Davis, Roy Moore and Charlie Clelland. In 1996, the Livermore Fire Department and the Pleasanton Fire Department joined forces as a Joint Powers Authority to form The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. The organization uses a joint powers authority (JPA) model with essential support services provided jointly by the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton.

Fun Fact: Fire Station #6 is home the worlds oldest known continuously operating light bulb; a 60 watt bulb produced by the Shelby Electric Company in Ohio in the late 1890's, which was given to Livermore Fire Department in 1901.
